The humanistic disciplines explore human being in what makes an individual different from other entities. They study only human being, but as a whole, in history and philosophy. The history constructed from here, therefore, is sensitively more humanistic considering the centred position of human being. In other words, it is often made definite reference to, for instance, language or literature as articulated coexistence. This subject maps space in the humanities by discussion how various humanistic theories approach it. In historical, philosophical and other similar study areas, texts and discourses texts are critical tool to understand the past. This subject will introduce important notions and figures of the humanistic theories through representative texts that form the key discourses within. Areas of study include architecture, postcolonial studies, cultural studies, Asian studies, philosophy, linguistics, sociology, art history, literature and cinematic studies – ones that are impossible to be disregarded when space is read in the humanities.  Students who take this subject will be asked to exercise criticism by studying given issues in a group and as an individual.
