In a democratic society, citizens require the capacity to question and critique existing systems, while many groups targeted by social welfare policies also confront various forms of societal or institutional injustices, discrimination, or biases. As venues for knowledge production and dissemination, university classrooms should guide students to engage with and effect change in society. From the perspective of social welfare, this encompasses diverse societal groups such as ethnicities, genders, and blue-collar/white-collar workers, which urgently necessitate societal attention. Through relevant civic actions or social advocacy, society can be prompted to prioritize these issues and implement tangible measures to enhance their quality of life and fulfill their needs. Consequently, this course will focus on various marginalized social welfare groups, leading students to understand their lived experiences, confront challenges, and explore potential advocacy initiatives, with the aim of fostering a deeper comprehension of the interconnection and potential developments between contemporary social welfare and civic engagement.
